The Gutshot Posse is getting ready to saddle up for OwlCon 2004 at Rice University, but will be packing a different adventure than originally announced. The Whistling Hangman will be replaced with Bushwhacked in Beaver Creek and Last Stage to Pinto Flats will be the second game.

"My initial tests of the Whistling Hangman adventure have shown that it is too long to be played in the time slot we have at the convention," said Gutshot co-creator Mike Mitchell. "I think The Whistling Hangman is a really great adventure, possibly the best I've written so far.. but it's just not right for a short, self-contained convention game."

Rather than cutting down the Hangman adventure, Mitchell decided to switch to something shorter and more focused. For the first game of the day, he selected the second adventure from the Midnight Riders Summer Campaign: Bushwhacked in Beaver Creek.

"Bushwhacked is a great little adventure," Mitchell said with a smile. "It's short, to the point, and it even lets the Players be outlaw heroes for a night."

The game premise is very simple. The crooked land agent in Beaver Creek has swindled your sweet granny out of the deed to her farm! So round up yer brothers and buddies to dish out a little back alley justice! This game will be played at 3:00 p.m., Sat. Feb. 7, 2004. It is expected to last most of the 4 hours.

"There were some interesting twists when we played it last summer," Mitchell said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how a new batch of Players will deal with the situation at hand."

Mitchell will also be debuting a new Gutshot Adventure for the 8 p.m. game: Last Stage to Pinto Flats.

"I'm very excited about this adventure because it's the first one that is almost entirely dependent on our horseback and stagecoach rules," Mitchell explained. "This will be a very important shakedown game for us."

This adventure also has a simple set-up: The stagecoach is coming through, and it’s got the mining town’s payroll... which means it’s payday for you and yer outlaw gang!

Both games are open to all players -- no prior experience is required, and all miniatures and game supplies will be provided. Each game is limited to 10 players, so it is recommended that you sign up in advance. This can be done online when you register online for the convention at the OwlCon Website: www.owlcon.com.

If you have difficulty with the form, or do not plan to pre-register, you can contact Mike Mitchell to discuss reserving you a seat in the game: mmitchell@hawgleg.com.
