Gather with the Tribes and get
The mini-con features open gaming covering a variety of genres and game systems. Some games have limited seating/slots available, so pre-registration is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is available at the store. "I plan to limit the Gutshot game to about 10 people," said Gutshot co-creator Mike Mitchell. "Of course, I'm also known as a soft touch and will usually squeeze someone in if they whine, beg, or buy me a Diet Coke!" Mitchell will be running the popular "Last Man Standing" game, and as usual, a prize will be awarded to the player who manages to accomplish that goal. "This time the prize will be a 'limited edition' stainless steel coffee mug," Mitchell said, explaining that this mug is no longer carried in the Gutshot store and that, if it is restocked, it will have a new design. "So, the lucky cowboy or cowgirl who gets this mug is walking away with something really special." The Gutshot game is open to everyone -- all miniatures and supplies are provided. All you need is enough gumption to get Gutshot. He's got Jungle Fever "I've been up to my elbows in tiny rice paddies all week," Murphy said with a weary grin. "I had to leave behind a lot of my terrain when I moved to Houston from Las Vegas a few years ago. So I've spent the past few weeks creating new terrain for this game." Charlie Company is one of several game systems that Murphy enjoys playing when he wants to kick the trail dust off his work on Gutshot. As with Gutshot, all miniatures and supplies are provided, so beginners are welcome. Planning for the Future Murphy expressed enthusiasm for the idea. "It's always amazed me that in a city the size of Houston -- the fourth-largest city in the United States -- doesn't have a dedicated miniatures gaming convention. We love OwlCon and the other cons in town, but it just seems odd that we don't have one that focuses exclusively on miniatures gaming," Murphy said. In addition to building the foundation toward a future miniatures convention, this year's mini-con serves a dual purpose. "In addition, Gathering will help mark the 2nd anniversary of Little Wars, and was one of the ways we wanted to celebrate and say thank you to everyone that has helped us prosper and grow," Chris said.
